  Course Description:Design zoo habitats to include plant and animal specimens. Students will plan, interpret, construct, and enrich animal enclosures according to individual animal needs. Students will propagate and care for plants that will become key components for animal enclosures.

 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the history of the zoo and the influence on modern zoo design.
 2. Research and design educational signs.
 3. Design and create a 3-D rendering of an exhibit.
 4. Create or refurbish an animal enclosure, utilizing hand and power tools.
 5. Research and create a plant list for an animal enclosure.
 6. Identify plants, their toxicity and their anatomy, with special respect to animal and plant interactions.
 7. Identify pests and diseases and recognize their symptoms.
 8. Describe soil characteristics and requirements for animal enclosures.
 9. Demonstrate the ability to propagate plants for zoo environments.
 10. Apply understanding of plants to plant utilization for browse, interaction, and enrichment.
 11. Demonstrate an understanding of the jobs available for zoo designers and horticulturists.
