  Course Description:Enables students to gain an understanding of the role of the systems of oppression in society and avenues available to them to create both individual and collective change through social action. Each student becomes aware of their ability to enact change and the empowerment that process provides. We will explore issues of diversity including, but not limited to race, class gender, age and disability. The course emphasizes critical thinking skills and is informed by feminist pedagogy.~~This course is one of the Statewide Guaranteed Transfer courses. GT-SS3

 1.   Interpret systems of oppression and evaluate its impact on the activist, activism and the ability to create change.
 2.   Define and understand the uses of activism as a tool for social, political and economic change.
 3.   Examine ways to create change through personal and collective action.
 4.   Analyze and be able to apply various tools for change.
 5.   Demonstrate effective ways to work within various change-making groups by creating alliances and coalitions.
 6.   Analyze and be able to apply various tools for change.
 7.   Measure effectiveness of collective action through various change agents.
 8.   Analyze liberal, conservative, radical and other political, social and economic points of view as they apply to collective action.
