Course Description: | Learn to perform safety inspections, make minor repairs, adjust operating parameters, and operate SMAW and GTAW equipment on plain carbon steel pipe joints. The student should also be able to evaluate and solve complex welding and fabrication problems, administer hands on training and supervise other students during assigned fabrication and welding operations. |

REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Follow shop safety practices.
2. Maintain a clean, safe work area.
3. Prepare assigned records.
4. Follow assigned instructions to complete work assignments.
5. Participate in assigned fabrication projects.
6. Perform safety inspections on equipment
7. Make minor external repairs as necessary to equipment.
8. Set up for operations on plain carbon steel.
9. Operate welding equipment.
10. Make a 5G weld on plain carbon steel pipe utilizing the SMAW and GTAW processes.
11. Make a 6G weld on plain carbon steel pipe utilizing the SMAW and GTAW processes.
12. Examine tack and completed welds.
13. Execute corrective actions to repair surface flaws on welds and base metals.
14. Recognize fundamental principles of pipe welding and fitting.
15. Explain fundamental principles of pipe welding and fitting.
16. Evaluate assigned welding and fabrication problems.
17. Propose solutions to assigned welding and fabrication problems.
18. Supervise other students during assigned fabrication and welding operations.
19. Administer assigned hands on training.

I. Safety and Record Keeping

II. Equipment Setup and Operation
A. Set up for operations on plain carbon steel.
B. Operate welding equipment.

D. Make a 6G weld on plain carbon steel pipe utilizing the SMAW and GTAW processes.
