  Course Description:Covers welding in all positions on carbon steel plate with the GMAW process. Student should be familiar with basic metallurgy pertaining to the weldability of metals, structural joints, and safety in the welding industry.

 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1.  Follow shop safety practices.
 2.  Maintain a clean and safe work area.
 3.  Follow guidelines prescribed in course progress chart.
 4.  Identify codes and procedures for welder qualification.
 5.  Perform safety inspections on GMAW equipment.
 6.  Prepare carbon steel plate.
 7.  Identification of proper filler wire and diameter.
 8.  Set up arc welding equipment.
 9.  Select proper current, polarity and amperage.
 10.  Perform welds on v-grooves in the 2G, 3G up, 3G dn and 4G positions using GMAW.
 11.  Prepare GMAW weld coupons for destructive testing per AWS D1.1.
 12.  Perform welds on single bevel and v-grooves in the 1G and 2G positions using FCAW.
 13.  Prepare FCAW weld coupons for destructive testing per AWS D1.1.
 14.  Identify surface discontinuities and suggest corrective measures.
 15.  Perform minor troubleshooting on cutting  equipment.
 16.  Interpret weld symbols.
 17.  Do assigned course book work.
