Course Description: | Covers welding in the 1F and 1G positions on various joint configurations using the SMAW (stick), GMAW (mig), GTAW (tig) and the FCAW (flux core) welding process on carbon steel; adjusting parameters and operating equipment, utilizing the various filler materials for each process. Layout procedures will be introduced and practiced, along with welding safety, Industry Standard Soft Skills and A.W.S. filler metal classification and selection. Basic math, measuring, computer skills and Blueprint reading will be introduced |

REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Exhibit shop safety practices.
2. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
3. Demonstrate layout and basic joint configuration.
4. Perform safety inspections on SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW equipment.
5. Demonstrate proficiencies on SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW welding equipment.
6. Perform guided bend tests utilizing all four welding processes in the 1G position.
7. Demonstrate Industry Standard Soft Skills.
8. Identify A.W.S. filler metal selection and classifications.
9. Demonstrate computer skills by accessing lab assignments, tests, worksheets, videos and power points.
10. Exhibit basic knowledge of measuring and print reading.

I. Safety:
A. Personal protective equipment.
B. Shop maintenance and clean up.
C. Proper use of equipment and machinery.
II. Machine setup and operation:
A. Adjusting operating parameters.
B. Weld process.
C. Type of filler metal.
D. Welding position.
E. Joint type and fit up.
F. Material thickness.
III. Welding processes and filler metals (carbon steel):
A. SMAW 3/32-1/8 electrode.
B. GMAW .045 electrode.
C. FCAW .045 electrode.
D. GTAW 1/16-3/32 electrode.
IV. Types of welds and positions:
A. Fillet and groove welds.
B. 1F flat fillet, 1G flat groove.
V. Layout and metal preparation:
A. Utilize basic measuring skills.
B. Apply bevel cuts and grinding techniques.
C. Interpret basic drawings (isometric and orthographic).
VI. Weld testing:
A. Visual inspections (non-destructive).
B. Guided bend all processes, 1G specific per A.W.S D1.1 code.
VII. Basic computer knowledge:
A. Access online lab assignments, tests, worksheets, videos, and power points.
VIII. Soft skills:
A. Attendance, punctuality and professionalism.
