  Title:Intro-Gas Metal Arc Welding
  Long Title:Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding
  Course Description:Covers welding in all positions and on various joint configurations using the GMAW (mig) welding process on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Student should be familiar with basic metallurgy pertaining to the weldability of metals, structural joints, and safety in the welding industry.

 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1.  Follow shop safety practices.
 2.  Maintain a clean and safe work area.
 3.  Follow guidelines prescribed in course progress chart.
 4.  Perform safety inspections on GMAW equipment.
 5.  Prepare carbon steel and aluminum plate.
 6.  Identification of proper filler wire and diameter.
 7.  Set up arc welding equipment.
 8.  Select proper current, polarity and amperage.
 9.  Perform weld beads in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on carbon steel.
 10.  Perform welds on tee, lap, corner and butt-joints in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on carbon steel.
 11.  Perform welds on v-grooves in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
 12.  Prepare weld coupons for destructive testing per AWS D1.1.
 13.  Perform welds on tee and  lap joints in the flat and horizontal positions on carbon steel using core wire.
 14.  Perform welds on tee and  lap joints in the flat and horizontal positions on aluminum, using spray arc transfer.
 15.  Identify surface discontinuities and suggest corrective measures.
 16.  Perform minor troubleshooting on arc welding equipment.
 17.  Interpret weld symbols.
 18.  Do assigned course book work.
