  Title:Intro-Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
  Long Title:Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
  Course Description:Covers welding in all positions and on various joint configurations using the GTAW (tig) welding process on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Student should be familiar with basic metallurgy pertaining to the weldability of metals, structural joints, and safety in the welding industry.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Follow shop safety practices.
 II.     Maintain a clean and safe work area.
 III.    Follow guidelines prescribed in course progress chart.
 IV.     Perform safety inspections on GTAW equipment.
 V.      Prepare carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum plate.
 VI.     Identification of proper filler rod and diameter.
 VII.    Set up arc welding equipment.
 VIII.   Select proper current, polarity and amperage.
 IX.     Perform weld beads in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on carbon steel.
 X       Perform welds on tee, lap, corner and butt-joints in the flat and horizontal positions on carbon steel.
 XI.     Perform weld beads in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on stainless steel.
 XII.    Perform welds on tee, lap, corner and butt-joints in the flat and horizontal positions on stainless steel.
 XIII.   Perform weld beads in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on aluminum.
 XIV.    Perform welds on tee, lap, corner and butt-joints in the flat and horizontal positions on aluminum.
 XV.     Identify surface discontinuities and suggest corrective measures.
 XVI.    Perform minor troubleshooting on arc welding equipment.
 XVII.   Interpret weld symbols.
 XVIII.  Do assigned course book work.
