Course Description: | Introduces welding in all positions on light gauge carbon steel using the GMAW and OAW processes on various joint configurations. Student should be familiar with basic metallurgy pertaining to the weldability of metals, structural joints, and safety in the welding industry. |

REQUIRED COURSE LEARNIKNG OUTCOMES:
1. Follow shop safety practices.
2. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
3. Follow guidelines prescribed in course progress chart.
4. Perform safety inspections on oxygen, acetylene and arc welding equipment.
5. Prepare carbon steel plate.
6. Identification of proper filler rod/wire and diameter.
7. Set up oxygen and acetylene equipment.
8. Set up arc welding equipment.
9. Select proper current, polarity and amperage.
10. Perform weld beads in the flat and horizontal positions on carbon steel using OAW.
11. Perform welds on tee, lap, and butt-joints in the flat and horizontal positions on carbon steel using OAW.
12. Perform weld beads in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on carbon steel using GMAW.
13. Perform welds on tee, lap, corner and butt-joints in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on carbon steel using GMAW.
14. Perform spot and plug welds in all positions on lap joints using GMAW.
15. Identify surface discontinuities and suggest corrective measures.
16. Perform minor troubleshooting on arc welding equipment.
17. Interpret weld symbols.
18. Do assigned course book work.
