  Course Description:Develops the fundamental Gas Shielded Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW-G) skills, including theory, safety, and equipment set up and operation as it applies to the American Welding Society (AWS) D15.1 Railroad welding Specification-Cars and Locomotives code.

 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1.  Identify the basic welding joints and welding positions.
 2.  Demonstrate safety inspections on FCAW-G equipment.
 3.  Identify and make needed minor external repairs as necessary to FCAW-G equipment.
 4.  Set up equipment for FCAW-G on plain carbon steel.
 5.  Select proper electrode and welding procedures according to the steel being welded.
 6.  Operate FCAW-G equipment.
 7.  Demonstrate padding using FCAW-G in the Flat, Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions.
 8.  Demonstrate Butt Joint and Groove welds with backing using FCAW-G in the Flat, Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions.
 9.  Demonstrate fillet welds using FCAW-G in the Horizontal, Vertical up and Overhead positions.
 10.  Recognize and explain the fundamentals of the FCAW-G process.
 11.  Demonstrate an understanding of the AWS D15.1 code, as it pertains to qualification testing for unlimited thickness, in the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions, using FCAW-G.
 12.  Demonstrate an understanding of the AWS D15.1 weld inspection requirements and how to utilize weld inspection gages.
 13.  Pass AWS D15.1 welder certification tests meeting the following requirements: V groove with backing in the Horizontal,
        Vertical up and Overhead positions using FCAW-G.


 REQUIRED TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 I.    Follow shop safety practices
 II.    Maintain a clean, safe work area
 III.    Prepare assigned records
 IV.    Follow assigned instructions to complete work assignments
 V.    Identify the basic welding joints and welding positions
 VI.    Perform safety inspections on FCAW-G equipment
 VII.    Make minor external repairs as necessary to FCAW-G equipment
 VIII.    Set up for FCAW-G on plain carbon steel
 IX.    Select proper electrode and welding procedures according to the steel being welded
 X.    Participate in assigned fabrication projects
 XI.    Operate FCAW-G equipment
 XII.    On scrap material, pad in the Flat, Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions
 XIII.    Perform open root square butt joint with backing welds in the flat position.  Joint configuration instructor defined
 XIV.    Perform fillet welds in Tee joints in the Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions to instructor defined leg dimensions
 XV.    Perform welds in simulated butt joint (2) in the Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions
 XVI.    V-groove with backing to instructor defined dimensions in the Horizontal, Vertical Up and Overhead positions.
 XVII.    Recognize and explain the fundamentals of  the FCAW-G
 XVIII.    Demonstrate an understanding of the AWS D15.1 code, as it pertains to qualification testing for unlimited thickness, in the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions, using FCAW
 XIX.    Demonstrate an understanding of the AWS D15.1 weld inspection requirements and how to utilize weld inspection gages
 XX.    Demonstrate proper techniques in preparing test coupons
 XXI.    AWS D15.1 Code test: Horizontal v-groove with backing to D15.1 specifications
 XXII.    AWS D15.1 Code test: Vertical up v-groove with backing to D15.1 specifications
 XXIII.    AWS D15.1 Code test: Overhead v-groove with backing to D15.1 specifications
