REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Research period and style of antique chair.
2. Strip furniture and order new fabric material.
3. Repair and refinish antique furniture frame.
4. Repair or retie spring unit.
5. Pad and recover seat and inside arms.
6. Construct and apply tufts.
7. Reassemble outside sections and trim.
REQUIRED TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Determine period and style of chair
A. Photograph chair
B. Determine period and style of chair
C. Determine proper fabric for chair
II. Strip furniture, measure and order fabric
A. Measure chair allowing for pattern matches, tufting, and flow of pattern/nap
B. Strip chair of old fabric cover
C. Inspect frame and springs
III. Repair and refinish frame
A. Repair or replace all wood members
B. Clean, glue or re-glue all joints
C. Replace or strengthen all tacking nails
D. Clean frame or refinish
IV. Repair spring unit
A. Replace, repair or retie springs
B. Replace webbing, burlap and edge rolls
V. Pad and recover seat and inside arms
A. Build up and pad seat
B. Attach seat cover
C. Pad inside arms
D. Attach arm covers
VI. Construct and apply tufts
A. Prepare back of chair for tufting
B. Determine size, number and type of tufts
C. Make tufts on inside back of chair and cover fabric
D. Make buttons
E. Attach fabric cover onto chair
VII. Complete recovering of antique furniture piece
A. Attach outside sections and trim as follows:
1. Arms
2. Back
3. Trim
4. Dust cover
B. Inspect antique furniture piece for appearance
