STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
A. Strip chair and order materials for new covers (I)
B. Repair a chair frame (II)
C. Repair a spring unit (III)
D. Recover inside sections (IV)
E. Construct and attach channels (V)
F. Attach trim and outside sections (VI)
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Stripping furniture and ordering material
A. Strip old cover fabric from chair saving all inside pieces
B. Measure chair for new material
C. Inspect frame and springs
II. Repair chair frame
A. Examine, repair or replace wood members
B. Examine, clean, glue or re-glue all joints
C. Use biscuits where possible
III. Repair spring unit
A. Examine spring unit and repair or retie springs
B. Replace webbing, burlap or panel board
IV. Construct and attach channels to chair
A. Measure inside back of chair to determine size, depth and amount of channels
B. Measure, cut and sew cover fabric for channels
C. Mark backing material and sew onto channels
D. Cut foam and fill constructed channels
E. Prefit channels to frame
F. Attach channels to chair frame
V. Recover inside sections of chair
A. Measure, cut and sew cover fabric for each individual section from pattern
B. Apply padding to each individual section
C. Attach cover fabric to chair frame
VI. Make cushions
VII. Make skirt if needed
VIII. Complete recovering of channel-back chair
A. Attach trim and outside sections as follows:
1. Arms
2. Back
3. Trim
4. Dust cover
B. Inspect completed chair for overall appearance
