STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
A. Disassemble, repair and replace reclining parts and mechanisms (I)
B. Remove chair covering (II)
C. Repair wood members (III)
D. Repair spring units (IV)
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Disassemble reclining chair
A. Remove old reclining parts and note sequence of parts
B. Inspect mechanism for loose or broken parts
C. Repair or replace loose or broken mechanism parts
D. Lubricate all moving parts
II. Strip recliner and order materials for new cover
A. Remove old covering from reclining chair frame
B. Measure chair for new fabric
C. Save all pieces of old fabric for pattern
III. Furniture frame spring units
A. Identify, recall and number furniture parts pertaining to style of chair
B. Examine, repair or replace wood members
C. Examine and repair spring unit or the springs
D. Examine connecting joints
E. Glue, re-glue and brace all joints
IV. Recovering the recliner
A. Recovering the recliner
B. Pattern, cut and sew fabric
C. Covering fabric on chair frame
1. Cut for braces and posts
2. Cut for corners and pleats
3. Pull fabric properly
4. Regulate and adjust material for appearance
5. Match patterns or nap properly
6. Attach material in proper places
7. Make buttons and place on chair
8. Attach trim
9. Assemble reclining mechanism and all recliner parts
