STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Understand the History of Clothing within a Historic timeline.
II. Demonstrate knowledge of Historic clothing in the context of Costume Design.
III. Recognize period silhouettes and patterns.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Reading and research
A. Using text provided, students will use ¿it¿ as a primary source, supplementing additional information through outside resources.
B. Research will be emphasized as the crucial tool in Costume History.
C. Students break down into groups to study in depth a particular Time Period.
D. Study groups will then present information to associates.
II. Study of silhouette
A. For each time period studied students will sketch a male and female figure to illustrate their understanding of the silhouette and cut of the clothing.
B. Students will be asked to do a small-scale picture of a particular period pattern.
III. Create designs based upon information gained through research.
A. Student will choose from several plays and then do detailed research of a Period (including architecture, art and political scene).
B. Student will create a final design palette for a series of characters from a historic period.
