STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Choose, arrange, and publish scripts for performance projects.
II. Develop a concept of the ensemble oral interpretation of literature, convey the concept to readers, and guide them to a performance.
III. Gain an understanding of the elements of vocal delivery of poetic language.
IV. Direct and evaluate productions performed for class and project audiences.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Script material
A. Select material to include in aesthetically coherent scripts.
B. Arrange and cut material to make dramatically viable scripts.
C. Publish complete scripts.
II. Directing techniques
A. Formulate a concept of ensemble performance for readers.
B. Conduct auditions and cast voices based on auditions.
C. Interpret a script for a cast.
D. Plan a production, using voice and complementary staging techniques such as music, dance, film/video, and scenic elements.
III. Delivery of poetic language
A. Scan poetic lines vocally.
B. Read rhyme.
C. Determine and deliver the rhythm of verse.
IV. Performance projects
A. Direct short class performances in two of the forms (prose, poetry, drama).
B. Direct a major project for an audience.
C. Offer constructive criticism of performances
