 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Interpret characters from various period plays for the stage.
 II.     Develop further his/her stage voice and movement.
 III.    Build depth into a character through written character biography.
 IV.     Perform scenes from period plays in front of the class.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Unit 1: Character Analysis
         A.      See his/her role in relation to the totality of the play through the study of approach and style.
         B.      Explore the business and movement of the scene for better sense of stage environment.
         C.      Build a character just from one small scene.
         D.      Deal with dialogue in the guise of the character of scene from the play.
 II.     Unit 2. Level of Words
         A.      Use silence as a method for communicating to the audience and/or other character(s).
         B.      Use vowels and consonants for both communication and music.
         C.      Explore the texture of sounds.
         D.      Improve his/her pitch, stress, and juncture for better stage projection.
 III.    Unit 3: Level of Action
         A.      Establish objectives for specific stage movements.
         B.      Refine those objectives.
         C.      Adapt movements to complement those of the other character(s).
         D.      Establish the environment of the stage.
         E.      Define the space of the scene and utilize it effectively.
         F.      Incorporate gestures and refine them.
         G.      Deal with the physical obstacles of the scene being performed.
         H.      Use effective tempo and dynamics to move the scene along smoothly.
 IV.     Unit 4: Role Development
         A.      Determine clear actions
         B.      Employ insightful delivery of the words.
         C.      Establish believable character relationships.
         D.      Use emotions honestly.
         E.      Write a character biography.
         F.      Use simple costumes to enhance the scene.
         G.      Use props where advisable and appropriate.
         H.      Establish and adhere to a rehearsal schedule.
         I.      Perform before classmates and instructor.
