  Course Description:Examines the practical and creative side of Production Stage Management from a participatory stance by serving as the Production Stage Manager for a current PPCC production. Participation in this course is subject to an interviewing process with the Show`s Director/Producer and is limited to just one student per semester. Interviews will start as much as three months before the semester of enrollment and may last through the first week of the semester of enrollment. This course is a continuation of THE 261.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Identify and discuss the various `roles` of a production stage manager (PSM) from the pre-casting process through the strike of a production.
 II.     Read all plots and execute, using available personnel, the set up of the rehearsal space prior to each rehearsal.
 III.    Successfully manage a college level production.
 IV.     Write a critical assessment of their abilities to function as a PSM which highlights their strengths, weaknesses and proposed strategies for improvement.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Participate in the audition and casting process with the Director.
 II.     Call and participate in all cast and crew meetings under the direction of the Director/Producer, being responsible for the care of and distribution of all needed paper work.
 III.    Be `on book` for all of the initial rehearsals and give script notes to the cast and insure that all communication between the Director and the cast members is clear and concise.
 IV.     Work with the Technical Director, Designers, Director, Artistic Director, and other key personnel to facilitate clear and concise communication.
 V.      Manage the beginning of all rehearsals, assuring the attendance and participation of all personnel in attendance.
 VI.     Prepare a clear and concise Production Stage Manager¿s Prompt Book for the current production. It must include all show cues and department lists (both personnel and equipment needs/placement, etc.). The final blocking (business and movement) must be included in proper notation.
 VII.    Be in charge during any and all rehearsals in the absence of the Director.
 VIII.   Be in charge of running the show from Dress Rehearsals through the close of the run.
 IX.     Be responsible for having the stage and all needed properties ready at the start of each rehearsal and show.
 X       Write a 12-20 page critical analysis on what skills and `character traits` are most important for being a successful Production Stage Manager and how you saw yourself in that role.  The paper must be typed & double spaced.  It is due two weeks after date of the last performance on the following Monday.
 XI.     And any other assignments related to the position and current production.
