Course Description: | Prepares teachers who work with limited English proficient students to integrate effective instructional strategies that will assist in the development of English Language learners’ (ELLs) social and academic English and support their transition to US culture and schools. This course is appropriate in a variety of program models; mainstream classrooms, self-contained ESL classrooms, and bilingual programs and may be adapted for use with pre-service teachers and para-educators. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Adapt instruction and materials to help English language learners comprehend academic content, develop academic and social language, and actively participate in class activities.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of sheltered English strategies to facilitate English language learners’ adjustment to a new culture and help all student s develop an appreciation for diversity.
3. Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with appropriate resources colleagues, students, families, and instructional resources) to meet the educational and social needs of English language learners.
