STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Observe working ESL model while working with ESL students in assigned class, school, or community agency.
II. Assess ESL curriculum materials through a hands on approach including reviewing and critiquing key Internet resources.
III. Assess the English proficiency level of a variety of students including prospective students to be taught in the ESL classroom.
IV. Design several units and lesson plans for a specified student audience in each of the following areas: grammar, listening/speaking, reading/writing, and culture for implementation in the ESL classroom
V. Select appropriate learning materials to accompany planned lessons for a specified student audience in the ESL classroom.
VI. Implement (teach) units and lesson plans in the ESL classroom under the supervision of a professional ESL teacher.
VII. Participate in a team teaching approach and develop and teach a cohesive lesson plan for a specified student audience in the ESL classroom.
VIII. Create a self-assessment of personal teaching performance in the ESL classroom.
IX. Create a portfolio of lesson plans, critiques, and self-evaluations to document student teaching experience.
