Course Description: | Focuses on the teaching of English grammar, speaking and listening, and reading and writing in the ESL classroom. Writing lesson plans, selecting and adapting instructional resources and technology, developing classroom management skills, and integrating cultural awareness in classroom activities provide the basis for this class. Observation of ESL sites provides an opportunity for TESL students to observe various working models. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Examine methods for assessing levels in grammar, speaking/listening, and reading/ writing, of prospective ESL students.
II. Identify and analyze grammar difficulties of prospective ESL students and provide strategies for improvement.
III. Design curriculum (units or lesson plans) for instructing prospective ESL students in English grammar.
IV. Observe working ESL models within a variety of ESL settings.
V. Identify and analyze ESL student levels of prospective ESL students for improvement.
VI. Identify and analyze ESL student levels of prospective ESL students and provide and/or critique strategies for improvement.
VII. Identify and analyze reading/writing difficulties of prospective ESL students and provide strategies for improvement.
VIII. Gain basic proficiency in classroom technology (overhead projector, computer, smart board).
IX. Practice classroom dynamics and management techniques in classroom situations.
