STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Identify specialty, procedure, and relevant surgical anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to the surgical procedure.
2. Explain the diagnostic interventions that are utilized for obtaining a diagnosis.
3. Discuss specific factors that are unique to the surgical procedure.
4. List the supplies, equipment, instrumentation, suture, and stapling devices needed for the procedure.
5. List medications used during the procedure.
6. Describe patient positioning, prepping procedures, and draping procedures for the surgical procedure.
7. Illustrate the type of surgical incision indicated for the procedure.
8. Outline the procedural steps in the correct order for the surgical procedure.
9. Analyze appropriate suture and wound closure technique for the surgical procedure.
10. Choose the type of surgical dressing.
11. Explain wound closure and surgical dressing for the procedure.
12. Discuss immediate postoperative care of the patient according to the procedure
13. List the wound classification and correlate it to wound care management.
