Course Description: | Examines the concepts, relationships, organizations, and research as they relate to violence in multiple cultural settings. SOC 265 assists in developing an understanding of societal and institutional causes of violence; explores resources for intervention and treatment; and provides service learning applications in violence assessment, treatment, and victim assistance. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Analyze and draw conclusions from the course materials.
II. Do research and write a comprehensive paper from source materials.
III. Describe and explain violence in different cultural settings.
IV. Describe social/cultural factors that promote violence.
V. Describe and explain how violence intersects with gender, ethnicity, social class, and cultural differences.
VI. Work cooperatively with others and contribute ideas, suggestions and effort to a group project.
VII. Integrate practical experience from service learning with the theoretical material from the class.
