  Course Description:Provides students with the hands-on activities that will allow them to effectively and accurately close, open and do all reports including a projected break-even analysis.

  Status Notes: This course is being proposed in order to meet the Small
   S: Business Program requirements as identified in the
   S: program approval. Courses currently approved with the SBM
   S: prefix do not meet the credit hour requirements for the
   S: third certificate offered by Lamar Community College SBM
   S: program. They also vary in their content. The LCC
   S: certificate is named Analyzing and Marketing the Small
   S: Business. It requires a 12 credit hour course in the fall
   S: and another twelve credit hour course in the spring
   S: semesters. Thus LCC is requesting the approval of the
   S: Small Business Management course submitted in this
   S: template, SBM 111 and SBM 109 submitted in an attached
   S: template.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Accurately maintain records that can provide balance sheets, profit and loss, accounts receivable and payable, budget, and cash flow reports.
 II.     The student will be able to provide complete financial reports and be able to interpret them in order to make reliable evaluations of the financial status of the business.
 III.    The student will have the skills and knowledge required to provide accurate financial reports, interpret them in order to be able to make sound financial decisions and plans for the business.
 IV.     The student will have the ability to provide accurate financial reports and records for use in meeting local, state and federal reporting requirements.
 V.      The student will be able to develop projected cash flow statements and complete a break even analysis in order to be able to make sound financial decisions and future plans for the business.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Presentation and discussion on the development, interpretation of financial reports and their purposes to include:
         A.      balance sheets,
         B.      profit and loss,
         C.      accounts receivable and payable,
         D.      budget reports,
         E.      cash flow and cash flow reports
         F.      cash flow projections
         G.      break even analysis
         H.      year end reports and their application to government reporting
