Course Description: | Covers the design and clearing of ski trails and locating support facilities approved in long range ski area development plans. Emphasis will be given to computing skiing capacity and balancing of facilities, lift and trail capacities with various environmental constraints. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Identify problems encountered in new skiing construction and plan techniques and methods of effectively deal with these problems.
II. Determine what type of equipment and techniques will best accomplish clearing of ski trails under varying slope gradient, geological, vegetation and hydrological conditions.
III. Understand slope carrying capacities and the theory of balancing lifts and trails.
IV. Work with regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and State Tramway Board in securing necessary operating permits.
V. Determine the need for expansion construction and trail reconstruction.
