Course Description: | Familiarizes the student/ropeway electrical maintenance apprentice with the theory and procedures applicable to automation controls, continuous process and programmable logic controllers as used in the North American ropeway industry. Students must be employed as a ropeway maintenance apprentice or a ropeway mechanic/electrician. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Explain and describe typical automation controls and instrumentation.
II. Explain and describe the principles of continuous process.
III. Identify various types of smart controllers
IV. Explain and demonstrate the use and application of distributed control systems
V. Explain and demonstrate how to troubleshoot DCS I/O`s
VI. Explain and demonstrate programmable logic controller ladder logic and symbology
VII. Explain and demonstrate I/O communications
VIII. Explain and demonstrate the use of the symbols used on hydraulic diagrams.
IX. Explain what vibration is and why it occurs in rotating equipment
X Describe & demonstrate how to measure vibration using a transducer, a vibration meter and a vibration analyzer.
XI. Explain how to analyze vibration using baseline data, vibration severity charts and vibration signatures.
