Course Description: | Focuses on the various terrain park elements regarding layout, construction and daily maintenance. Half-pipe construction and maintenance will also be explored. Management issues regarding opening/closing procedures, and risk management will be analyzed. Collaboration among various departments, including snowmaking, grooming, ski patrol, and ski school, will be the subject of class case studies. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
Students will be able to:
1. Identify the primary types of terrain park elements in use today.
2. Define the typical dimensions of three major types of half-pipes.
3. Describe the issues associated with the layout and location of these facilities.
4. Demonstrate specifics of park opening, closing, and daily maintenance activities.
5. Compare snow and earth construction techniques of these features.
6. Evaluat the necessary coordination between grooming, snowmaking, ski patrol, ski school, and other affected departments to make a terrain park successful.
7. List the various park maintenance tools from specialty hand rakes to hydrostatic snow-cats and pipe-cutters, and describe the use of each.
8. Demonstrate knowledge of the risk management issues associated with the daily operations of a terrain park and half-pipe.
