Course Description: | Familiarizes the student/ropeway mechanical maintenance apprentice with the basic principles associated with measuring and analyzing vibration in rotating equipment; the basic concepts associated with oxy-fuel and arc welding and the basic parts and safe operation of oxy-fuel gas welding rigs. Students must be employed as a ropeway maintenance apprentice or a ropeway mechanic/electrician. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Explain what vibration is and why it occurs in rotating equipment.
II. Describe and demonstrate how to measure vibration using a transducer, a vibration meter and a vibration analyzer.
III. Explain how to analyze vibration using baseline data, vibration severity charts, and vibration signatures.
IV. Describe and demonstrate the various hazards and safety concerns associated with the use of oxy-fuel gas and arc welding equipment.
V. Describe the basic parts and operation of an oxy-fuel gas welding rig and an arc welding machine.
VI. Describe and demonstrate the basic tasks involved in preparing for a welding job.
VII. Identify and describe the equipment used for three common arc welding methods: shielded metal arc welding, metal inert gas arc welding, and tungsten inert gas arc welding.
VIII. Demonstrate and describe how to assemble an oxy-fuel gas welding rig, light the torch, and disassemble.
