Course Description: | Provides the student with the first aid skills to quickly respond to sick or injured staff or guests at a mountain resort until the arrival of ski patrol or EMS personnel. This is a National Ski Patrol course. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Understand universal precautions and exercise body substance isolation procedures
II. Control an accident scene and call for the appropriate help
III. Assist emergency care providers upon arrival on scene
IV. Recognize mechanisms of injury and illness
V. Perform an initial assessment
VI. Perform basic life support, rescue breathing, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (incl. AED use) as necessary.
VII. Assess carotid and radial pulses
VIII. Assess and document vital signs
IX. Control external bleeding
X Recognize and provide first aid for shock
XI. Understand the principles of bandaging and splinting
XII. Recognize and provide first care for common medical problems
XIII. Recognize and provide first care for environmental problems
