 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Operate professional broadcast equipment in the control room and production room and newsroom. (I)
 II.     Produce newscasts utilizing news production techniques every week on KEPC. (I)
 III.    Utilize actualities in their newscasts. (II)
 IV.     Re-write newspaper stories in broadcast style that can be used in newscasts. (II)
 V.      Write and produce special news features to be aired on KEPC according to an established schedule. (III)
 VI.     Write weekly operational reports relating to on-air and production activities. (IV)
 VII.    Write comprehensive operational report at the end of the internship. (IV)
 VIII.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      The student will utilize news writing and reading skills learned in the labs to perform actual on the air newscasts. The KEPC newscasters prepare newscopy using the menu driven software on the newsroom computer.  The computer is used to write news stories.  The newscasters prepare actualities from the Network and from the phone.  Network news feeds are to be included in several newscasts.  The student will improve production skills by producing several special news features in the production room.  The student will write several broadcast style news stories from the newspaper.
 II.     UNIT I:  The student will utilize newsgathering and newsreporting skills to produce newscasts on KEPC, according to an established schedule.
 III.    UNIT II: The student will utilize newswriting techniques.
 IV.     UNIT III:  The student will utilize news feature writing and production techniques.
 V.      UNIT IV:  The student will utilize professional attitudes and responsibilities for KEPC operations and FCC obligations.
