STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Understand the technical aspects and aesthetic principles in pre-production, production and post production, to include budgeting, the creative process, lighting, camera composition techniques and editing styles (I)
II. Develop understanding of advanced editing techniques and their aesthetics. (II)
III. Gain understanding of advanced news journalistic production, and documentary production to include the ethics and legal aspects of news production and aesthetics. (III)
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. The student will have an advanced understanding of how to research and develop scripts for video productions..
II. The student will also understand he purposes required for the completion of news and documentary video productions
III. UNIT I
A. Based on lecture, understand the purposes for different shots, transitions and image processing in support of development of video productions. The student team will create and produce a music video This is done through a group effort on a non linear system.
IV. UNIT II
A. Working from a semi scripted script, the student team will develop and produce using available audio, video, a 30 second commercial on a non linear system. The student will also develop a 2:00 minute news package to include research, development of script, and final production.
V. UNIT III
A. The student will, edit and produce a 5:00 minute documentary based on instructor approval to include transitions, effects both video and audio, voice and music to support the project.
