  Title:Basic Video Production
  Long Title:Basic Video Production
  Course Description:Introduces basic videotape production and editing on linear and nonlinear editing systems. Covers producing, writing, directing, lighting, editing and shooting techniques. Enables the student to gain experience in paint and character generator graphics, image processing, transitions and techniques using the Avio and Casablanca nonlinear editors.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Explain why certain techniques are used in the production of video projects, to include a critique of camera angles, lighting, audio as per instruction (I)
 II.     Compare the different methods to direction and editing, and explain when and why they are used to support the overall video production.  (I)
 III.    With the linear system, create a silent movie theme utilizing available video or student created video that logically and emotionally creates a story (I)
 IV.     Develop a 30 second script to sell a product, supported by audio and an EDL (edited decision list) from student or college supplied video (II)
 V.      Research, write and produce an institutional video. (III)
 VI.     Create a program treatment and script for approval in support of the institutional video production.  (III)


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      The student will have a general understanding of how to research and develop scripts for video productions..
 II.     The student will also understand the language and editing techniques required for the completion of video productions
 III.    UNIT I
         A.      Based on lecture, understand the purposes for different shots, transitions and image processing in support of development of video productions.  This is done through a group effort of working together to build a video program on a linear system.
 IV.     UNIT II
         A.      Working from a semi-scripted script, the student team will develop and produce audio, and using available video, plan, edit, and produce 30 a second commercial on non linear system.
 V.      UNIT III
         A.      The student team will develop an institutional video, to include the development of a program treatment, and script.  The program will be totally developed using student sot video and audio.
