  Course Description:Introduces the development, acquisition, and application of outdoor leadership skills and knowledge. Focuses on the latest information philosophy, and techniques necessary to safely conduct outdoor programs and expeditions as an outdoor leader. Skills are applied under actual field conditions. Emphasizes minimal impact camping, wilderness ecology, judgment and decision making, group dynamics and trip logistics. These skills enhance effectiveness as an outdoor leader.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Identify and explain recent trends in adventure programming.
         A.      Identify various types of outdoor leadership.
         B.      Know and understand seven attributes of successful outdoor leaders.
         C.      Understand and identify the major elements of group dynamics.
         D.      Gain an insight into themselves and relate leadership theory to their personal behaviors as outdoor leaders.
         E.      Know all of the necessary elements for good trip planning.
         F.      Know and understand the principles of risk management.
         G.      Employ a prescriptive behavior as to the safety of the mission and stewardship of the land.
         H.      Write a 3-5 page paper about current aspects of outdoor leadership.
         I.      Conduct a ¿teaching\leading¿ practical acting as the group leader in a backcountry educational outing.
