  Course Description:Acquaints and familiarizes the student with wilderness equipment, programs and facilities. Includes field trips to local outdoor industry facilities.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      List all necessary equipment for backpacking, climbing, winter mountaineering, cross-country and alpine skiing, paddle sports.
 II.     Know what facilities are necessary and what are optional to establish a location that will house an outdoor\adventure industry.
 III.    Know what is required to procure land use permits, and other special use permits in areas that may require a permit for use of the land. Understand risk management and safety issues as they pertain to outdoor industry facility management.
 IV.     Design a management/facility plan appropriate for the intended use as an outdoor venue.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Equipment concepts and uses.
 II.     Permit Systems (NPS, USGS, BLM, etc.)
 III.    Facility Design.
 IV.     Risk Management.
 V.      Field Trips to local venues (camps, retail stores, parks, ski areas).
 VI.     Student Project.
