  Course Description:Explores the psychosocial aspects of the patient/client and health care practitioner. Investigates recognition of and adjustment for psychological, sociological, educational, cultural, economic and political concerns on the delivery of health care services. Communication skills and social and advocacy responsibilities of the health care practitioner are discussed. Enables the student to develop the skills to meet expectations and needs of members of society receiving health care services.

 I.      Understand the psychosocial challenges and responsibilities of health care providers.
 II.     Describe psychological factors that influence attitudinal behaviors.
 III.    Describe motivational factors in rehabilitation as they relate to physical disability and chronic illness.
 IV.     Describe effective communication processes and recognize sources of communication breakdown.
 V.      Describe the health care provider`s role in caring for and communicating with the dying patient and his/her family.
 VI.     Describe symptoms and causes of burnout as well as methods for prevention of stress and professional burnout
 VII.    Describe the components of a Code of Ethics and their utilization in solving ethical dilemmas
 VIII.   Recognize individual and cultural differences.
 IX.     Recognize internal and external sources of conflict and resolution possibilities.
 X       Discuss appropriate and implications of inappropriate moral and ethical behavior with patients, colleagues and other health care providers.
