Max Credit: | |
STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Recognize the electrochemical and physiologic reactions to electrical stimulation (ES).
II. Define the terminology used to describe the properties of electricity, electrical stimulation, modalities, and application of modalities.
III. Discuss the different currents and waveforms used in therapeutic ES modalities.
IV. Discuss the concepts, goals, indications, precautions, contraindications and effective applications of the various ES stimulators; such as, TENS, IFC, biofeedback, iontophoresis, high voltage unit, low voltage unit, combined ES/US, microamperage, Russian, A.C., and D.C.
V. Determine which ES modality would be applied for: Local pain, strengthening, edema control, improving range of motion, decreasing spasticity, and improving wound healing.
VI. Demonstrate the safe and effective application of ES modalities in a lab setting.
VII. Review current professional literature and produce a written abstract in regards to electrical stimulation.
VIII. Document accurate medical documentation with electrical stimulation using the SOAP format.
