Course Description: | Provides an introduction to the study of the relationship between brain function and behavior. The course presents neuroanatomy and neurophysiology as they relate to human experience and behavior. It demonstrates the application of neuroscience concepts to understand and intervene in human behaviors and disorders. Students will be introduced to modern research methods and ethics in the study of brain and behavior. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Describe the purpose and nature of the study of brain and behavior.
2. Relate the evolutionary perspective to the development of the modern brain and human behavior.
3. Use the language, concepts, and theories of neuroscience to account for human behaviors and psychological phenomena.
4. Analyze behavior at the level of the central nervous system, neuron, cellular activity and genes.
5. Describe the ways in which the body and the environment interact with the central nervous system to influence our behavior and experience.
6. Demonstrate the conceptual ability to apply appropriate research methods and ethics to the study of brain and behavior.
7. Apply knowledge of brain and behavior to solving problems in everyday life and understanding abnormal behavior.
