STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. The student will understand stress and develop techniques for managing stress.
II. The student will broaden his/her understanding of the causes of burnout and how it affects work, home life, and society.
III. The student will examine the characteristics of depression and understand how it is associated with character change.

I. Define stress, eustress, and distress
II. Identify three basic sources of stress
III. Explain fight-or-flight response
IV. Recognize life events and amount of change in life style that will be required to reduce stress
V. Identify stressors
VI. Identify good "coopers"
VII. Use techniques to reduce stress, such as
A. Progressive relaxation
B. Breathing exercises
C. Meditation
D. Imagery/Visualization
E. Nutrition
F. Physical exercise
G. Assertiveness
H. Time management
I. Financial management
VIII. Define burnout
IX. Recognize characteristics of burnout
X Identify causes of burnout
XI. Explain techniques of overcoming burnout
XII. Define depression
XIII. Identify characteristics of depression
XIV. Explain the danger of depression leading to suicide
XV. Develop techniques to help individuals overcome depression by changing:
