Course Description: | Review basic skills in draping including: trimming, smoothing, pinning and clipping the fabric on the dress form. Course is designed for intermediate to advanced sewers and will improve student’s ability to manipulate fabric on the form and achieve the desired style. After finishing required projects participants may proceed with independent study. Students will design and produce a complex project for the final. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Recognize, name, and use pattern engineering tools, equipment and terminology.
2. Drape more advanced projects such as flared skirts, styles with cut-outs, shirred designs or asymmetrical styles and more.
3. Transfer the drape to paper and true-up pattern accurately.
4. Trace pattern on fabric, fit and construct garment.
5. Finish garment applying appropriate hems, facings, and garment details.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Dress Form
a. Select a dress form
b. Pad up dress form to students measurements if desired
II. Draping
a. Review lengthwise and crosswise grain
b. Explain draping principles in more detail
c. Demonstrate new techniques such as pivoting fabric for flare
d. Show procedure for draping with knits or bias
e. Illustrate draping collars or other topics of interest to the class
III. Independent Study
a. Analyze individual designs
b. Identify which draping principles should be used for each design
c. Manipulate fabric to achieve desired effect
d. Mark fabric, transfer to paper, true-up pattern
e. Create mock-up, fit mock-up, correct pattern
f. Cut out fashion fabric, sew, fit and complete garment with facings and closures
g. Measure and mark level hems and finish hems appropriately
