Provide students with the knowledge and skills to create flat or tech sketches for industry and manufacturing. Create digital renderings of garments in color and dimension.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Describe the difference of raster vs. vector formats.
 2. Describe basics of graphic design software i.e., art board, control panel, tools panel.
 3. Demonstrate type tools and place features in a graphic design software
 4. Demonstrate layers and layer groups
 5. Introduce pen tool and drawing in a graphic design software
 6. Construct a Flat or Tech sketch
 7. Introduce graphic design software, tools, layers, effects, etc.
 8. Use graphic design software to color and shade the tech sketch
 9. Use graphic design software to create texture swatches and shading
 10. Create a portfolio piece of two or three pages that combines all given parts: croquis, design sketch, color variations, tech sketch, swatches, hang tag, etc.
 11. Evaluate the final project


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I. Basic T Shirt
 a. Use basic shapes to create form
 b. Use shapes and colors to create decoration
 c. Use group and ungroup commands
 d. Construct a prototype
 e. Create color changes using the color edit function
 II. Hang tags
 a. Describe type functions in graphic design software
 b. Describe the concept of logos and company ids
 c. Demonstrate the place option with the live trace function
 d. Create formal and informal hang tag
 III. Pen tool
 a. Use the pen tool to trace simple forms
 b. Create a croquis using the pen tool
 c. Create a garment on a croquis
 IV. Tech Sketches or Flats
 a. Create a garment on given croquis
 b. Demonstrate the transform functions
 c. Demonstrate the Group and Ungroup functions
 d. Demonstrate Layers and layer groups
 e. Demonstrate special techniques i.e. topstitching, zippers, gathering etc.
 V. Colored  Tech sketches
 a. Using the tech sketch just created apply color and textures
 b. Describe graphic design software resolution, pallets, layers, history, etc.
 c. Demonstrate shading and light sources for more realism
 d. Demonstrate using pattern and texture in creating  a garment
 VI. Fabric Swatches
 a. Use both graphic design software effects and filters
 b. Demonstrate  retouching tools
 VII. 2 or 3 page layout for final project
 a. Select a croquis for design sketch using sixe and resolution constraints
 b. Create garment in a design mode
 c. Demonstrate good design in presentation or portfolio design
 d. Demonstrate combining elements to create a finished page
 e. Create a unified Portfolio using all of the assigned elements
