Course Description: | Provides an understanding of what leads to violence and the types of support that research has shown to be effective in preventing violence as a necessary tool for the security management professional. Preparing for a violent confrontation or the threat of physical harm is not an everyday occurrence. Although most schools are safe, the violence that occurs in our neighborhoods and communities has found its way inside the schoolhouse door. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Identify and describe the warning signs that relate to violence and other troubling behaviors.
II. Discuss the action steps that school communities can take to prevent violence and other troubling behaviors.
III. Determine when intervention is necessary and describe the support systems to aid in assisting the violent prone individual.
IV. Develop a prevention and response plan
V. Describe the steps necessary to respond to crisis intervention.
VI. Discuss the follow-up needed subsequent to a crisis event.
