Course Description: | Examines the philosophical considerations of the integration of forensic science disciplines with criminal investigations. The course encompasses and provides an overview of physical evidence and examines the major forensic sub disciplines of pathology, toxicology, deontology, anthropology, art, firearms and tool marks, criminalistics, serology, and questioned documents. The course provides an important base for the security management professional who may become the first responder in a crime scene. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Describe the integration of forensic science into the investigation process and describe the steps and methodology that is necessary and vital to the first responder.
II. Describe the different aspects of forensic science available to an investigator.
III. Articulate how and when forensic science can be introduced into an investigation.
IV. Discuss what forensic evidence will become available to assist in the investigation.
V. Compare and contrast the role of a security management professional as a first responder to a scene, and the effects that the first responder will have in preservation of possible evidence.
VI. Identify and document possible evidence for later use in the investigative process.
VII. Take and evaluate fingerprint evidence.
VIII. Process a crime scene as a first responder, documenting all possible evidence.
IX. Prepare that evidence for storage and/or shipment to a qualified lab.
