Course Description: | Explores the roles, techniques and strategies of safety and risk management in both the private and public sectors. Students will examine the concept, techniques, and strategies of asset protection, crime prevention and loss reduction, with emphasis upon the selection and implementation of comprehensive prevention systems and loss-reduction strategies. Topics will include facility security, OSHA regulations and topologies of fraud. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Present an overview of safety and risk management and how it applies to the field of Loss Prevention and Security Management.
II. Describe the nexus of security management and loss prevention and its relationship to the field of Criminal Justice.
III. Describe the theory and practice of safety as it relates to OSHA regulations.
IV. Describe the assessments of risk management.
V. Examine and document how risk management assessments are developed and implemented
VI. Describe how to maintain the balance between loss protection and asset protection
VII. Describe and discuss facility security as it applies to the private sector
VIII. Describe and explain the different types of fraud and to methodologies to combat this problem
IX. Understand and describe the difference between frauds in the private sector versus the public sector.
X Develop a plan for an organization and describe how it includes employee involvement as part of the solution.
XI. Describe how intrusive private security can be to the employee.
XII. Define and document the methodology of safety and managing the risk to a company
XIII. Explain why risk management and safety is vital to the organization survival
XIV. Discuss and explain the future of safety and risk management with emphasis on the development of new technology and the impact of that technology on the field of loss prevention and risk management.
