Course Description: | Demonstrates emergency response and non-emergence response driving techniques including braking techniques, steering techniques, selecting the appropriate line of travel, and maintaining control of the vehicle. Student will demonstrate proper function, operation, testing, and calibration of basic Radar/Lidar. Conforms to National Park Service standards and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) certification requirements.

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate the use of visual and physical cues for maintaining control of a vehicle during an emergency
and non-emergency response.
2. Demonstrate acceleration, braking, and steering techniques for emergency non-emergency response driving.
3. Demonstrate the lines of travel through true apex and late apex turns.
4. Demonstrate the appropriate driver preparation for vehicle operation.
5. Demonstrate the elements of collision avoidance.
6. Demonstrate adaptive driving techniques for low speed driving.
7. Demonstrate driving techniques for preventing skids and techniques of skid recognition and recovery.
8. Identify hazards encountered when driving at night or under other reduced lighting conditions.
9. Identify techniques and equipment, which will improve vision while driving at night.
10. Identify and/or demonstrate the acceptable procedures used during the Personal Preparation Phase, the Pre-Stop Phase,
the Stop Phase, the Contact Phase, and the Closure Phase of a risk and high-risk vehicle stop.
11. Drive an emergency response vehicle within the limitations of the driver and the vehicle under prevailing conditions.
12. Identify techniques for driving a high center of gravity vehicle on paved and gravel roadways through lateral weight shift maneuvers.
13. Identify factors that would terminate a high speed vehicle pursuit.
14. Describe the basic principles of radar speed measurement.
15. Identify and describe the laws, court rulings, regulations, policies, and procedures affecting radar speed measurement.
16. Demonstrate basic skills in testing and operating the radar instrument.
17. Demonstrate basic skills in preparing and presenting records and courtroom testimony relating to radar speed measurement.
