Course Description: | Gains knowledge of nomenclature, safety rules and regulations, safe weapons handling, de-cocking, loading, unloading and transfer of a weapon. The student will demonstrate proficiency in the fundamentals of marksmanship and weapon handling skills as designated by the National Park Service Courses of Fire. Conforms to National Park Service standards and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) certification requirements. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate range safety rules, procedures, and terminology.
2. Demonstrate the use of firearms range safety equipment and fundamental safe weapons handling skills.
3. Demonstrate and/or identify the Sig Arms handgun family, Remington 870P pump-action shotgun, M-16 and
the AR-15 patrol rifle specifications, nomenclature, internal safety features, cycle of operation and making the weapon safe.
4. Demonstrate the fundamentals of marksmanship, the proper wearing of duty belt/equipment/slings, deployment of the weapon
from the holster, returning the weapon to the holster and preparing the weapon for duty carry.
5. Demonstrate unloading, emergency reload, magazine exchange, tactical reload, immediate action drills and malfunctions.
6. Demonstrate field stripping, maintenance, re-assembly and function check of all issued weapons.
7. Demonstrate and/or identify covering the target, scan position, support hand only position, barricade positions, one
hand shooting/reloading, alibis/re-fires, scoring and marksmanship ratings.
8. Demonstrate various shooting positions for all issued weapons.
9. Identify firearms safety and handling while on duty, off duty and not in the home.
10. Demonstrate the fundamentals of weapon handling, marksmanship skills and the techniques for threat identification and
identify the characteristics of law enforcement flashlights in reduced light conditions.
11. Demonstrate the fundamentals of basic marksmanship and weapons handling while shooting from positions
simulating a down/disabled officer.
12. Demonstrate proper judgment when to use or not use force in each JPS scenario.
13. Demonstrate proper use of cover/concealment.
14. Demonstrate the fundamentals of marksmanship and weapons handling using survival shooting techniques and
positions during a live fire cover course.
