  Course Description:Introduces basic and advanced skills and knowledge necessary to perform the entry level duties of a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger. This course introduces crime scene investigation, DUI/DWI detection, terrorism recognition, human behavior, radio communication, vehicle searches and patrol skills. Conforms to National Park Service standards and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) certification requirements.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Identify and demonstrate the role of the law enforcement officer in conflict management and resolution.
 2. Examine human behavior that may be classified as abnormal.
 3. Identify bombs and explosives.
 4. Demonstrate the duties and responsibilities of being the first respond to a critical incident to include digital evidence.
 5. Identify and demonstrate the ability to manage and stabilize potentially volatile and/or dangerous situations to include terrorism.
 6. Identify common drugs, both legal and illegal, and recognize signs of drug abuse.
 7. Identify and demonstrate the legal and practical applications for applying force.
 8. Demonstrate the various aspects of two-way radio communication.
 9. Demonstrate the essentials of report writing.
 10. Recognize drivers who are under the influence of alcohol in accordance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA).
 11. Identify and demonstrate the ability locate, develop, document, and preserve evidence to include vehicle searches.
 12. Demonstrate interviewing skills using questioning techniques.
 13. Identify common circumstances that would cause a law enforcement ranger to become embittered, angry and disillusioned.
 14. Identify the procedures for traffic control and crowd control at the scene of an accident to include the protection of
         personal property at accident scenes.
 15. Identify and demonstrate the legal and practical applications of audio-video recording devices.
 16. Identify the importance of HAZMAT Awareness training and the health and safety threat posed by hazardous materials.
 17. Identify the responsibilities and protocol of responders first on scene of a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory.
 18. Demonstrate the procedures for responding to general service calls and emergency response calls during the patrol skills exercises.
 19. Identify and demonstrate proficiency in criminal investigations that will lead to potential prosecution through the
         continuous case operations (CCO).
 20. Identify those groups of extremist organizations that target and threaten resource officers.
