  Course Description:Focuses on a comparison of the basic features of selected developed and developing countries. Topics include ideologies, political parties, interest groups, and governmental institutions.

   C: The topical outline for this course leaves the basic
   C: approach to teaching the course up to the discretion of
   C: the instructor. A thematic approach with cross country
   C: comparative analysis and a country studies approach are
   C: two common approaches to teaching this course. Also, a
   C: three worlds of approach has often been used, although
   C: that has been modified since the collapse of communism in
   C: many countries. It is strongly suggested that a minimum
   C: of six countries be incorporated into this course. Those
   C: countries should be representative of a variety of
   C: political systems.

 I.      Define the chief characteristics of a nation state.
 II.     Identify and explain various comparative methodologies used to compare various political systems.
 III.    Distinguish between unitary, federal and confederal governmental models.
 IV.     Compare and contrast political culture on selected countries.
 V.      Compare and contrast political socialization in selected countries.
 VI.     Describe and explain patterns of representation and participation in selected countries.
 VII.    Compare and contrast the roles and functions of political parties in selected countries.
 VIII.   Compare and contrast the role of interest groups in selected countries.
 IX.     Identify and explain governance and policy making in selected countries.
 X       Compare and contrast the role of the executive in selected countries.
 XI.     Compare and contrast the role of the judicial branch in selected countries.
