STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Develop new and existing Ice Skating Skills, Falling and Recovery, Forward and Backward Strides & Gliding, Forward and Backward Swizzles, Turns, Forward and Backward Stops, Curves, Forward and Backward Edges, Forward and Backward Crossovers, Mohawks, and Spins.
II. Demonstrate knowledge of ice skating safety rules, history, terminology
III. Demonstrate correct beginning ice skating techniques & skills.
IV. Detect and correct errors in ice skating performance.
V. Discuss properly care for and use of ice skating equipment.
VI. Review and use proper conditioning methods for ice skating.

I. Introduce, demonstrate, and practice skills
A. Falling and Recovery
B. Forward and Backward Strides and Gliding
C. Forward and Backward Swizzles
D. Two-foot Turns In Place
E. Forward and Backward Snowplow Stops: right and left foot,
F. Forward Curves on Two Feet
G. Forward and Backward Edges on a Circle: outside and inside; clockwise and counterclockwise
H. Forward and Backward Crossovers: clockwise and counterclockwise
I. Inside Mohawk, either direction
J. Basic Forward and Backward Outside and Forward Inside consecutive edges (4-6)
K. Beginning Two-Foot Spin
II. Introduce safety rules, terminology, history
A. Discuss safety
B. Discuss the history of skating and skating terminology / fitness skate
C. Terminology: inside edge, outside edge, flat edge
III. Demonstrate correct beginning ice skating techniques
