Course Description: | Presents an empty-hand form of self defense using all parts of the body in various blacking, kicking, punching and striking techniques against one or more assailants. The style of Karate taught will be Tae Kwon Do. Based on the results of an initial skills test, each student will be assigned two additional kicks, one additional jump kick, and one pattern. Intermediate sparring and self-defense techniques will be taught. Each student will be assigned a goal that they will strive to achieve by the end of the course. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. To recognize and demonstrate the basic components of a proper Karate warm-up and stretching routing.
II. To demonstrate the basic stances including natural, front, back and straddle.
III. To demonstrate the defensive hand techniques including upper, center and down blocks.
IV. To demonstrate hand techniques including punching and striking.
V. To demonstrate leg techniques including snap kick, thrust kick, turning sidekick, and jump kick.
VI. To demonstrate the following body motions: body shifting, body rotation, and body vibration.
VII. To demonstrate basic Katas required at the yellow or green belt level
VIII. To demonstrate intermediate sparring techniques.
IX. To demonstrate intermediate self-defense movements and techniques.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Basic warm-up routine including specific stretching movements.
II. Review of basic stances including natural, front, back and straddle.
III. Review of defensive hand techniques including upper, center and down blocks.
IV. Review of hand techniques including punching and striking.
V. Review of leg techniques including snap kick and thrust kick.
VI. Review of body motion. Offensive and defensive hand and leg techniques will be used with the following body motions: body shifting, body rotation, and body vibration.
VII. Introduction to turning side kick and jump kick.
VIII. Introduction to two additional Katas.
IX. Introduction to intermediate basic sparring techniques.
X Introduction to intermediate self-defense movements and techniques.
XI. Students will have the option of testing for belts.
