Course Description: | Emphasizes the instruction of Tai-Chi from a practical and scientific approach with illustrations of applications for each of the movements in daily life. Cardiovascular training, strength and flexibility training, balance and coordination are integral parts of the Tai-Chi training. In addition psychosocial skills such as meditation, relaxation and self-efficacy are covered. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. These outcomes do not necessarily reflect the exact sequence or full scope of the course materials.
II. To demonstrate the Tai-Chi short form (Yang style, 20 movements).
III. To recognize the principles of improving human performance by experiencing the improvements themselves in a variety of simple application in daily life.
IV. To evaluate the purpose for each movement in the form.
V. Apply each movement in a variety of common application in daily life.
VI. Use the form as a meditation and relaxation technique.
VII. Use the form as a moderate cardiovascular exercise (@ 40-60% VO2 max).
VIII. Use the form as a strength and flexibility exercise, using range of motion and medicine balls to provide resistance training.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Each class period will review all previously learned movements and skills while focusing on one new movement and the mind/body skill that the motion represents. Specific applications for that movement in daily life, in sports and business will also be emphasized.
II. Tai-Chi and Human performance part two Yang style long form
III. Press and Push, Single Whip, Fist under Elbow, Repulse Monkey 3X
IV. Flying Diagonal, Lift Hands, White Crane Cools Wings, Pick up Needle from Sea Bottom
V. Fan through the Back, Turn and Chop, Intercept and Punch, Step up and Grasp Sparrow¿s Tail
VI. Single Whip, Wave Hands Like Clouds 3X, High Pat the Horse
VII. Tai-Chi, meditation and relaxation
VIII. Review of forms and applications in daily life.
