Course Description: | Prepares the physician assistant student to assess and manage patients within a medical setting. The student will provide care to patients under the direct supervision of a practicing clinician (preceptor). Modules within the clerkship are one month long and will include areas of medicine as scheduled by the Clinical Coordinator.

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Perform and document a complete or focused medical history and physical exam
2. Correlate abnormal physical examination findings to a given disease process
3. Generate a differential diagnosis
4. Identify conditions that constitute a medical emergency
5. Identify indications for hospital admission
6. Identify indications for a referral to a specialist
7. Generate and deliver a patient education plan
8. Develop and document a treatment plan/discharge plan
9. Select appropriate clinical therapeutics and calculate dosage
10. Prepare a written or electronic prescription which is appropriate, legal, and without error
11. Explain and obtain informed consent
12. Use universal precautions
13. Order & interpret laboratory tests/diagnostic imaging studies
14. Document procedure, admission, and discharge notes as appropriate
