  Course Description:Prepares the physician assistant student to assess and manage patients within the setting of the family medicine practice. The student provides care to patients under the direct supervision of a practicing clinician (preceptor). Clerkships are 4 weeks long.

 Demonstrate within the appropriate practice setting the following skills:
 I. Obtain and document a complete medical history
 II. Perform and document a complete physical exam
 III. Perform and document a focused physical exam
 IV. Recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in a patient
 V. Correlate abnormal physical examination findings to a given disease process
 VI. Generate a problem list
 VII. Generate a differential diagnosis
 VIII. Identify conditions that constitute a medical emergency
 IX. Identify indications for hospital admission
 X. Write a SOAP note
 XI. Write hospital admission orders, progress notes, discharge notes
 XII. Write procedure notes
 XIII. Orally present: medical history, physical exam, differential diagnosis, treatment plan
